5 Days To Declutter
Clutter stresses me out. Life can be hard for anyone, especially a type A person when the house piles up! I am definitely in that group. I have worked hard over the years to let my kids enjoy their little “treasures”, which they do, but a good spring cleaning is still needed now and again. Lately it seems like I clean and organize a little every day and the next moment I turn around everything is a mess again. It is time to clear the clutter! With busy schedules in the spring, I don’t want to drag this out. I hope you’re with me because we are going to tackle it quickly, only 5 days to declutter!
If you are interested in deeper spring cleaning, check out my schedule HERE.

What To Declutter?
When you only have a short time frame, you have to make it count. Let’s break it down by all the main living spaces and then add some optional additions. After each day, throw away any items that need to be trashed and put any items that need to be donated in a bag and place it in the garage. On day 5, when we clean out the garage, we can work on taking care of all the donation bags.
If you have already decluttered these spaces, feel free to choose an alternate option. Craft Room, Office, Front Closet or Linen Closet, Toys/Playroom, or Game Closet are other great spaces to declutter.
Day 1 Declutter Kids Bedrooms or Master Bedroom
Doesn’t it seem like the master bedroom is always last on the project list? It tends to collect a bunch of things and is far from a peaceful retreat! Time to change that. If your master bedroom needs some help, commit to decluttering this space on Day 1.
Another space, which needs constant attention is the kid’s rooms. Kids are always growing out of clothes, changing what they like to play with and accumulating more things. It can be a struggle! I can’t wait to declutter my girl’s bedroom, they definitely need to get rid of a lot of toys they no longer play with.
If your child doesn’t like to get rid of items, I created an organizing flow chart to help them determine if they should keep an item or pass it on. It worked great with my oldest daughter, who never likes to get rid of anything! You can find it HERE.
Make sure to utilize under bed storage!
Day 2 Declutter Bathrooms or Laundry Room
We spend a lot of time in bathrooms, yet we rarely declutter this space! On day 2, clean out the medicine cabinet or the bathroom closet. Open all the cupboards of the bathroom vanity and organize. Utilize all the space you have. It may just look like a whole new bathroom when you are finished!
If your bathrooms are in good shape, you can tackle the laundry room! If you are a Type A overachiever, tackle both!
Both of these are spaces you use all the time, so make the effort to make them function by adding more storage options if possible or simply getting rid of anything you don’t need anymore. It is amazing how much better a room can feel after a little organizing!
Day 3 Declutter Kitchen or Dining Room
If your coffee mugs don’t fit into your cupboard anymore or you have some really outdated pantry items, now is the time to declutter the kitchen. Maybe the counters need more work than inside the cupboards, you decide what is most important. If your kitchen counters are constantly cluttered, figure out why and try to add some organizing solutions to keep the clutter away.
I am still in love with my water bottle organizer 2 years later!
Day 4 Declutter Living Room or Basement
The living room is not a huge problem area in our home, so I may focus on our basement. The basement tends to be a collect all for us and will definitely take more time. However, choose whichever room needs the most work in your home.
Again if you see problem areas in these spaces, meaning clutter always collects. Try to create some storage solutions with bins, baskets or other storage options.
Day 5 Declutter Garage or Shed
We currently have sleds laying over a bunch of things on our garage landing. Yup, it was nearly 70 last week so it is safe to say we should probably put the sleds in the attic. I also purposely appointed the garage clean out to day 5, so now we can round up all those donation bags and get them into the car for drop off. Half of the battle is getting the donation bags dropped off right away. How many times have you had something sitting around, ready to donate, and then things started coming back in the house? I hope I’m not the only house where that happens!
So make sure you get rid of your trash and drop off your donations as soon as possible.
To declutter the garage, be honest with what you use or what your kids use and try to get rid of anything you don’t need. If you have a shed, try to tackle that space as well or commit to getting to it soon. Garages and sheds can be incredible storage spaces, however, they quickly get overrun. So try to be creative with storage, get as much off the ground as possible. It will make a huge difference.
Just an FYI, this picture is from a previous challenge and right now our garage is a hot mess again!
I can’t wait to get it cleaned out!
