School supply lists, clothes shopping, and getting in all those last minute doctor appointments!  Everything back to school is in full swing.  August is the perfect month to get your house organized and make sure everything is ready for a smooth transition back to school.

One thing that is top on the list is getting the mudroom ready!  It is still hard to believe when we first moved into our house, we had no mudroom at all.  We didn’t even have a back closet, there was a coat hook and a pantry closet.  The pantry closet was big…but after a few months I realized the big shelves just collected stuff and while maybe a few of the shelves were helpful to hold my big Costco sized food boxes, it wasn’t very functional.  

It made me think of one of my favorite shows Love It Or List It on HGTV.  It always amazes me how Hillary can walk into a space and make it functional for the family.  So that is exactly what I did….I started thinking outside of the box and knew in order for the garage entrance to function, something had to be done. 

The problem was space!!  It was a pantry closet, not exactly a huge space.  Luckily, I like a challenge. I knew with a little creativity, we could make it work.  I had no idea how amazing it would actually turn out and now I can’t imagine our house without it!

If your house has a problem area, step back and really think about what you need.  Think about how you could change the space so it works for your family.  Sometimes it is just a matter of organization and other times it might entail a little demo.  Either way, don’t let small spaces limit you!  Just add a little creativity and make every inch count!
